New Castlevania for the 3DS?

A new direction or an old step back?

According to N1ntendo, a Dutch Nintendo site, claim that a 3DS Castlevania game is in the works and to be presented at Konami's E3. The Castlevania game is titled, Castlevania Mirror of Fate. Unlike the multiple previous 2D Castlevania games handled by Koji Igarashi this title is being created by company Mercury Steam.
Some may remember Mercury Steam for Castlevania's newest and by far finest installment; Castlevania Lords of Shadow

2D style (Koji Igarashi)
3D style (Mercury Steam)
To some this may be great news while to others a terrible move. Ever since the release of Lords of Shadow; Castlevania's titled reboot, fans have been in constant conflict over 2D and 3D. While the article says 3DS it could have been a translation issue and meant new 3D Castlevania, as rumors stand a sequel to Lords of Shadow is in production. Whether the title is for the 3DS or not, the game will most likely be 3D and look similarly to it's predecessor.

If people are even questioning the possibility of this game, two registered domain's under KONAMI DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT GmbH say otherwise.

UPDATE: Castlevania slated for Xbox 360/PS Vita/PS3/Wii U
An updated report from the Paul Gale Network suggest Mercury Steam was not planning one Castlevania title but TWO. Sources claim that Mirror of Fate was initially a 3DS and Wii U release but moved it off the Wii U and pushed the sequel to Lords of Shadow onto the Wii U and it's other competitive brothers. Can this possibly mean a 2D 3DS Castlevania game and a 3D Lords of Shadow sequel game on the home consoles or both games in 3D format? Only E3 will tell considering both games are to be revealed at Konami's Press Conference.
